THE HOUSEHOLD CAVALRY REGIMENT

The Regiment has just returned from an arduous and demanding series of exercises on Salisbury Plain. The Household Cavalry was the first Battlegroup to use the Combined Arms Tactical Trainer. This is a full simulation system, with nearly 100 "vehicles" interlinked. Also included was a period of field training which included troop tests in which A, B, D and HQ Squadrons all took part. It was fortunate that 16 Air Assault Brigade were also on Salisbury Plain. This allowed HCR dismounted patrols to insert by Puma, and for the Scimitars and their crews to be transported by the Chinook helicopters. D Squadron has remained on the plain to enjoy further training with the Brigade. They will redeploy in the middle of the month to take part in EX EAGLES LIFT, a live firing exercise with 16 Air Assault Brigade at Otterburn.

C Squadron is now returning from Bosnia after another highly successful tour. They will hold a medal parade where the General Officer Commanding London District will present the medals. Meanwhile, the whole regiment is preparing to assist in fire-fighting should the need arise.

On the sporting front, the Regiment is looking forward to the SIKA Trophy, a sports competition against the other Formation Recce Regiments based in the UK. In addition to the hockey, football and rugby matches, the inter regimental boxing match is attracting much attention.
